i thought the point of chronicles was to tell the story of resident evil to people who are not familiar with it. capcom have probably done this with the future in mind.by this i mean to broaden their fan base

RE UC goes through 0,1, and 3. I don't think it really matters if you played them or not in terms of understanding it.
What I would do if you want the story is just read up on the story from a few fansites and maybe read a walkthrough for each game.That being said I would just play UC for the Wii and then pick up and play the other games when you get a chance. I don't know if you're a ''I only buy new'' kind of person so it might be hard to find them all at once since some of them are older and had a smaller then usual release.
