Wii Online needs a Serious Overhaul !

I have owned the Wii for almost a year now and I am still waiting for decent online games for Wii. While Nintendo makes great games, they dont make great online games. Its not that everyone who buys wii is looking for online play, BUT COME ON....Nintendo needs to stop trying to appeal to fans of mario of old and start trying to win over fans of other consoles. Why does Xbox 360 and PS3 have a strong faboy following. It might be because of games like halo and metal gear solid. IT could also be because of the name brand. I think, though, that may are attracted towards the those consoles because of there communication outlets. Xboxlive and the Playstation Online / Home experience are ground breaking. Nintendo is still light years behind when it comes to online. Its holding back first party developers and third party devs. Games that come out with Online play..all have unique methods of connecting and playing which came make the experience difficult.Friend Codes arent the greatest way to connect friends online...but having 100 of them for 100 games is a waste.Nintendo needs to do these things to better there online approval rating...These steps will help them to gather a more hardcore following than just my grandfather and will help it to steal younger consumers away from buying PS3 and Xbox 360.1. Nintendo Needs to set an online standard. Implement a standard method of connecting and experiencing these games. Many of the Wifi connect titles have several different friend codes and different menu styles. Its hard to keep up. With a central online design (Ex XBOXlive menu) the experience would be more pleasant2. IF your gonna use friend codes...try to use just one...or try to link my.nintendo.com accounts. Using 100000 friend codes sucks. ITs hard and its not fair. The friend code on the console should be enough to keep online matches personal.3. Allow users to communicate please. Communication is the sole purpose of the internet.. yet in only POKEMON DIamond/Pearl and Animal Crossing both for DS can you communicate with the outside world. Nintendo may be worried about law suits from people complaining about little kids cursing. THis may be the reason why it prevents communication with strangers. BUt come on. I cant talk to my friend ...who I know...and get along with ...and know wont sue me if I curse at him. If your gonna set up super secret friend codes then let me communicate with my friend. Whats the point of having online play with no communication. ITS LIKE PLAYING THE SAME GAME WITH A DIFFERENT AI. Nitendo is the greatest Video Game ..correction Company period. They know what they need to do. NIntendo we need to stop shying away from allowing interaction over WIFI. Preventing it with strangers is one thing...PREVENTING IT WITH FRIENDS is ridiculous. I just hope when Medal of Honor comes out there is a bluetooth headset or something...so I can talk trash to my friendcode buddies.Wii Online needs a Serious Overhaul !
We all know that. We can only hope Nintendo will soon figure this out. But don't get your hopes up, it ain't gonna happen.Wii Online needs a Serious Overhaul !

They make some many new fans...but lose some the old ones in the process. (Gamecube) THen they win back the older fans (virtual console) then alienate the younger fans (Online experience from hell)
I know what you mean. It's not that we're asking Nintendo to make online as good as Xbox Live. But the whole friends system blows. And when you think you've seen it all, you get the announcement of Smash. Pull yourself up to the fact that the Wii has alot to offer besides online. I never had so much playing a game (no, not minigames :) ) in years
we need to wait for their new system maybe it will be alot better no friends code and it wil have all the nessary things for a decent online system
Light years are distance not time
I dont know why they just dont have on friend code even per console...that would work much better!
I personally enjoy the fact that they are releasing all the great games from their roots; but I do agree their could be some on-line play added to the mix which would make a big difference for fans of Nintendo... myself as well.
It really is a shame that the Wii is both so hard to connect to the internet and also hard to play games with others, and even when you over come these hurdles you still cannot talk to them.

Until Nintendo do something about this I'm affraid my Wii will still be there as a VERY MUCH second console to my 360 which really is a shame!
